Pool Filter Cleaning in Austin, TX

A dirty filter is one of the most overlooked problems in pool maintenance. When your filter is clogged, water can’t circulate properly, chemicals don’t distribute evenly, and algae gets the opening it needs.

In Austin, pollen, live oak debris, and hard mineral-heavy water put filters under more stress than most homeowners expect. Deep Blue Pools services all filter types as a standalone service or an add-on to your weekly plan.

Filter Types We Service

Deep Blue Pools services all three major filter types: sand, cartridge, and DE (diatomaceous earth). Each one works differently and requires a different cleaning approach. If you’re not sure what type of filter you have, we’ll identify it when we arrive and take it from there.

We backwash sand filters to flush out trapped debris and restore proper water flow. Sand media typically needs to be replaced every five to seven years.

We remove, rinse, and deep clean cartridge elements to clear out debris, oils, and mineral buildup. Cartridges should be cleaned every one to three months depending on pool usage and Austin’s pollen load.

We backwash and recharge DE filters with fresh diatomaceous earth to restore their fine filtration capability. DE filters are the most thorough option but require regular attention to perform properly.

Frequently Asked Questions
(FAQs)

Yes. A clogged filter restricts water circulation, which means chemicals aren’t distributing properly and algae has an easier time taking hold. A neglected filter is one of the most common causes of green pools in Austin.

Backwashing reverses water flow through the filter to flush out trapped debris and is part of routine maintenance. A full cleaning goes deeper, removing and inspecting filter components, clearing out mineral buildup, and recharging the media where needed.

Deep Blue Pools charges a flat rate for filter cleaning.

A standard filter clean is $150 and includes cleaning, degreasing, re-charging the filter media, and a full inspection of internal and external parts.

For $200 you can add an in-depth equipment check covering all pool equipment, which we recommend if it’s been a while since your last service.

More often than most homeowners expect. Cartridge filters should be cleaned every one to three months, and Austin’s cedar and oak pollen seasons can push that closer to monthly. Sand and DE filters need to be backwashed regularly and deep cleaned at least once or twice a year. If your pressure gauge is reading high, don’t wait to contact us!
